In 2009 I was commissioned to write a play about the life of Nelle Tritton – a Brisbane woman who married the ex-prime minister of Russia – Aleksandr Kerensky.
The play (working title: The Kerensky Project) was commissioned by Three Sisters Productions and underwent a creative development process at Metro Arts’ Freerange 2009 and then a second development process thanks to Brisbane City Council’s Creative Sparks Grant. In 2010 the second draft was shortlisted for the Queensland Premier’s Drama Awards.
The third draft was completed in September 2010 and it is hoped that the play will go into production in 2011.
Nelle Tritton
Nelle Tritton left Australia in the 1920s and lived in Europe, working as a foreign correspondent. She befriended writer and poet Nina Berberova and married Russian opera singer Nicholas Nadejine before marrying Kerensky.

It’s an exciting period to research and Nelle’s life was full of intrigue and drama – including a flight from the Nazis during WWII.
The play weaves together Nelle, Nina Berberova and the modern day Russian researcher who uncovers Nelle’s story.
Hi Katherine,
Having recently researched the family tree of a friend of mine, I found Nelle Tritton, and became fascinated. My friend is descended from her brother, Roy (Arthur Roy Tritton). So I was pleased to discover that you were writing a play about this remarkable woman, and was just wondering how it was coming along, and how close it is to production?
Thank you for your time.
Kindest regards,

Thank you for your comment, Kristy.
How marvellous that you found a connection in your friend’s family to Nelle Tritton.
The play is going very well and we’re looking at a production in the first half of 2011. I will post details as soon as I have them.
All the best,
Katherine
Hi Katherine
I am amazed to find this blog as I am looking for family connections also. Can you please tell me when and where the play will be performed.
If it has passed in Brisbane , is it being performed anywhere else.
This would be very very important for me to see.
Many thanks………Noela Berezovsky
