I’m a playwright, a freelance writer and an editor. I love reading, going to the theatre and day-dreaming. I’m juggling working, writing my own plays, being a mother and loving partner and finding the time to read. Any tips on how to keep all the balls in the air would be greatly appreciated!
Theatre
I have clocked up more than 20 years experience in theatre. First as an actor, then (very briefly) as a director, later as a theatre reviewer and now as a playwright. You can click on the tabs above to read about my plays. I have an MA in playwriting and am currently enrolled at the University of Queensland doing my PhD.
Public speaking …
… terrifies me, but I am regularly asked to do it. I have been a guest speak at conferences and on panels. I have presented at the Brisbane, Byron Bay and Melbourne Writers Festivals as well as introducing many authors at their speaking events, including John Banville, Bill Bryson and Margaret Atwood. (Don’t be surprised if you find me in the toilet for at least an hour before I have to speak – but, once I’m on stage, I’m fine. Touch wood.)
Editing
I work at ourbrisbane.com as their editor and have many years experience as a magazine, book and website editor.
I’m passionate about theatre, books and literacy. I love pretty much every aspect of the writing business and feel incredibly lucky to be able to spend all my days doing what I love best.

The glasses give a very good editorial look: very smart but not too steely.
btw: I also love daydreaming.
Have a great festive season and New Year.

Quick update – I’m now doing my PhD at the University of Queensland. That other ball is flying high and hopefully I’ll be able to catch it as it descends.
As to keeping all of those balls in the air, may I suggest turning them inside-out first? (No cutting allowed!) : )
I figure if you can manage that, keeping them in the air should be a breeze…
I have been a big fan of your uncle’s writing for about 20 years now, and was saddened to read of his passing. His probings along the margins of accepted science have kept my mind occupied for many joyous hours. I actually only have a few of his books, but I read them over and over. It makes me happy to know that he has many more books that I’ve yet to read. And, I look forward to reading his biography (hint, hint) in the not too distant future. : )
Best of luck with your PhD. And if somewhere in a long illustrious career you find the inclination and time to adapt Gifts of Unknown Things into a play (or movie!), that would be awesome! …Just kidding, as I’m sure you have your own plans…

Thanks for your very kind comment, Todd. Your idea of turning the balls inside out made me laugh out loud.
The biography hint is a good one – I promise to take it on board! And also the adaptation idea. Gifts of Unknown Things has always been my favourite of Lyall’s books. It was his favourite, too. It could make a beautiful film or play.
